Delivering More Impact in 2024: The Results Are In

By February 28, 2025March 5th, 2025No Comments

The 2024 Social Impact Results for HOPE Housing are now available. Our social return on investment for 2024 has risen to 14.4%, up from 13.5% in 2023, with total social value created reaching $1.96 million, a significant step up from $1.2 million last year.

This year’s findings reflect not only an upward trend in key metrics but also a more refined approach to measuring and delivering impact. With essential workers and their families at the heart of our mission, the past 12 months have further demonstrated the life-changing power of homeownership – and our numbers back it up.

Reflecting on this year’s results, HOPE Housing CEO Tim Buskens stated:

“The 2024 results reinforce what we’ve always believed – homeownership is more than just having a place to live; it changes lives. Seeing our impact deepen as our homeowners settle into their communities is incredibly rewarding. The data proves that we’re not just providing homes; we’re fostering stability, strengthening workforces, and delivering real financial returns. With over 3,000 essential workers still on our waitlist, the opportunity to scale our impact has never been greater.”

A Measurable Difference

We believe our impact is rigorous and transparent. Having worked with the Centre for Social Impact at the University of NSW and Think Impact, we continue to refine our methodology, ensuring a data-driven approach that captures the true social and economic value of homeownership. With survey response rates increasing from 61% in 2023 to 80% in 2024, we have even greater confidence in our insights.

HOPE’s impact spans four key Domains of Change, demonstrating the broad and lasting benefits of homeownership:

  • Quality of Service: 78% reported increased productivity at work, with a 50% drop in respondents saying they were considering leaving their job and a 26% reduction in commute times.
  • Health: 79% report improved mental health, while 67% say they have more time for physical activity.
  • Wealth: 92% feel more in control of their finances, and 83% are optimistic about their financial future.
  • Self: 87% report improved family quality time, and 63% engage more in social activities, strengthening their communities.

Numbers tell part of the story, but it’s the voices of homeowners that bring these results to life:

“I underestimated the peace of mind that owning brings instead of renting. This is a huge reliever of stress. Thank you!”

“Owning a family home to raise our kids with space – a garden, bedrooms, access to a great school and community – has been life-changing.”

“We could not afford to live in this area if it weren’t for HOPE. We would have had to move out of Sydney or live in a very small apartment near work.”
